President Jokowi lauds swift services of Pontianak’s public hospital

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) extended his appreciation for the swift medical services offered by Sultan Syarif Mohamad Alkadrie Public Hospital, Pontianak City, during his visit to West Kalimantan on Thursday.

“I visited Sultan Syarif Mohamad Alkadrie Public Hospital in Pontianak City to review the health services provided to residents,” he told journalists after his inspection, as per a statement issued by his secretariat in Jakarta.

The president noted that the public hospital had been providing appropriate and quick medical services to residents despite having to serve around 600 patients daily.

“Based on my review, the hospital has been successful in providing swift services to deal with long lines of queues. I have also learned that the hospital serves 600 patients on average every day. Hence, it is no wonder that queues are formed,” he pointed out.

The head of state then spoke of having instructed Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to provide additional equipment at the public hospital, especially for the intensive care unit and services related to stroke and heart diseases.

One of the patients, Wahyu, commended the hospital for the comprehensive services offered.

“All services, from those found in the entrance and inside the hospital, are very good,” he remarked.

Heni, a diabetic patient, shared her experience in enjoying services covered by state health insurer BPJS Kesehatan at the hospital.

“(The costs for) all medicines I need, including insulin, are borne by BPJS. However, some medicines have yet to be covered by BPJS, such as those for heart disease treatments,” she remarked.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Acting West Kalimantan Governor Harisson, Acting Pontianak Mayor Ani Sofia, and Head of Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) Lassarus accompanied President Jokowi during his visit.
