Ministry provides 239 buses for National Sports Week in North Sumatra


Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Transportation provided 239 buses to the North Sumatra Committee of the National Sports Week (PON) to support the implementation of the national-level multi-sports event.

Head of Transportation Division of the North Sumatra Committee of PON Agustinus here on Sunday stated that the additional vehicles from the ministry brought the total number of vehicles for the 2024 PON transportation to 1,206 units.

He explained that earlier the committee had prepared 967 vehicles for the event.

Agustinus affirmed that the committee is carrying out coordination so that the buses can arrive faster.

“The buses will arrive on August 8, but I reported to the acting governor of North Sumatra that on August 15, some athletes will arrive. Thus, we hope that two weeks from that date, the buses will arrive,” he explained.

The committee hoped that the ministry would increase the assistance given that the number of participants who will be served by the local committee is quite a lot.

He explained that the transportation division will serve as many as 6,281 athletes, 3,142 officials, and 5,600 committee members.

To support smooth transportation during the 2024 PON, he explained that the local government has also readied the Transponsumut application and the Fleet Management System.

Agustinus explained that the Transponsumut application is designed to facilitate orders of vehicles for athletes and officials outside of the schedule. The application provides flexibility for athletes and officials in facing changes in match schedules and additional needs for vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Fleet Management System is used to monitor and control the operations of vehicles, especially shuttle vehicles.

He expressed hope that the two innovations can improve the quality of transportation services during PON so that they can provide comfort and certainty to athletes and mobility regarding their mobility during the event.

“We, together with the relevant stakeholders, continue to increase coordination to strengthen preparations in the field of transportation for the 2024 PON,” he remarked.
