He emphasized here Thursday that oil and gas remain key to fulfilling people’s energy needs, including during the energy transition period.
Tanjung noted that the energy mix in the first half of 2024 was dominated by coal at 39.48 percent, followed by oil at 29.90 percent, natural gas at 16.69 percent, and new and renewable energy sources at around 13.93 percent.
Meanwhile, in the 2050 energy mix projection, the share of oil is around 20 percent, and natural gas around 24 percent.
In the downstream oil and gas sector, the government is guaranteeing energy security, including by increasing the use of natural gas in the industrial and household sectors by establishing a household gas network.
As of September 2024, 703 thousand household gas networks have been installed, funded by the State Budget, along with 400 thousand household gas networks funded by other sources.
Meanwhile, the domestic gas priority is being carried out by integrating gas pipes along Sumatra Island to Java Island, he said.
The program aims to distribute the potential of natural gas from the Agung Working Area and the Andaman Aceh Working Area, so it can be utilized for downstreaming the two islands, including household gas networks—300 thousand gas networks on the Cirebon-Semarang pipeline and 600 thousand gas networks on the Duri-Sei Mangke pipeline.
Meanwhile, for the single-price fuel program, especially in the underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, 580 distribution points have been established since 2017.
“The construction of single-price fuel distributors, especially in the 3T regions, is to ensure the availability and affordability of energy for the community. Since 2017 until now, 580 single-price fuel distributors have been built,” Tanjung informed.
Head of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) Erika Retnowati said that to support the energy transition, the role of downstream oil and gas also needs to be considered and discussed further.
She highlighted the role of fuel in the future, which will be replaced by new and renewable energy sources as well as natural gas, which is a form of clean energy.
