KPK probes alleged bonus payment graft at ESDM Ministry


Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened an investigation into allegations of corruption involving the payment of employee performance bonuses at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) during the 2020–2022 budget year.

“This case has risen to the investigation stage because KPK has at least two evidences and the existence of several parties that can be legally accountable,” head of the KPK’s news section, Ali Fikri, informed here on Monday.

KPK investigators have determined the suspects in the alleged graft case. The potential loss caused by the case has been estimated to be tens of billions of Indonesian rupiah. However, KPK is not yet willing to announce the names of the suspects.

Fikri said that the list of suspects and information on the alleged crime and violated articles will be announced to the public after evidence gathering by the investigation team is deemed complete.

KPK expects all parties it summons, whether as suspects or as witnesses, to cooperate and provide their statements concerning the case honestly.

“To make sure this case investigation stays on track, we expect that the public always monitor it and we are open to deliver the update,” Fikri said.

In connection with the case, KPK investigators conducted a search at the Mineral and Coal Directorate General Office in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, here on Monday, confirmed that KPK’s investigation into the corruption case had been reported to him.

He said that he has received a brief explanation concerning KPK’s investigation. He added that his ministry will follow KPK’s investigation and is awaiting its results.
