Eid return flow to peak on Sunday, Monday, police predict

He also appealed to drivers to ensure they are in good health and not force themselves to continue to drive after their concentration declines or when they feel tired.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Police’s (Polri’s) Traffic Corps has predicted that the Eid al-Fitr return flow will peak on Sunday (April 14) and Monday (April 15, 2024).

Therefore, exodus returnees have been advised to avoid the peak by traveling at an earlier or later date.

“We appeal to people to delay the return to after it (the peak) or on (April) 17, 18, 19,” head of Polri’s Traffic Corps, Inspector General Aan Suhanan, said in Jakarta on Friday.

He asked people to use the toll discounts that will be provided from April 17 to 19 to prevent congestion during the peak return flow.

He also appealed to drivers to ensure they are in good health and not force themselves to continue to drive after their concentration declines or when they feel tired.

According to him, four-wheeled vehicle drivers should rest every four hours, while two-wheeled vehicle drivers should rest every two hours at the most.

“For public transportation, the working period is eight hours. If it has been eight hours, then use a backup driver. For bus, travel business players, there must be a backup driver so that the safety can be ensured,” Suhanan stressed.

Earlier on Thursday (April 11), Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi appealed to people to return from the Eid homecoming exodus on Friday (April 12) and Saturday (April 13).

According to him, the traffic flow during those two days would be relatively lower.

“There will definitely be a big increase on Sunday and Monday,” he said.

As per a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people were expected to join the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr this year, which fell on April 10.
