British Tourist Caught Shoplifting in Bali


Badung – Bali’s tourism industry is showing signs of strain, with increasing reports of criminal activities involving tourists. On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, a British tourist was caught shoplifting lingerie worth approximately Rp 1,100,000 at Lace And Basics, located at Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan No. 12c, Canggu, Kuta Utara.

The tourist, identified as Boyles Paul George, 42, was apprehended by the store’s security after attempting to steal a Kokon Bralette Silk bra and Kolor O Night Size S underwear. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM and was reported by Radar Bali.

Ipda Sukarma I Putu Sukarma Prakasa, the Head of Public Relations for Badung Police, confirmed the arrest. According to him, the police were alerted via a phone call about a suspected theft. Officers promptly responded and found George still inside the store.

Following coordination with Lace And Basics staff, it was confirmed that the British national had committed the theft. “The stolen lingerie is valued at Rp 1,100,000,” stated Sukarma.

George was taken to the North Kuta Police Station for further investigation. “He is currently being questioned, and we are investigating the motive behind his actions,” Sukarma added.
