GIANYAR – An assault incident occurred on Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Ubud, Bali, on Friday, May 2, 2025, around 10:10 p.m. local time. The perpetrator, identified as 22-year-old British national Liam Orme, attacked a local motorist who had reprimanded him for riding his motorcycle recklessly and nearly hitting the victim.
According to Gianyar Police Chief AKBP Umar on Friday, May 9, the incident began when the victim was passing through the area and witnessed the foreigner performing a front-wheel lift maneuver. Feeling endangered, the local man confronted the rider, who then reacted aggressively.
Instead of apologizing, the tourist became enraged and chased the victim. He caught up with him in front of the Circle K Pengosekan store and struck him twice, causing a torn wound on the victim’s left cheek and bleeding from the nose.
The victim reported the incident to the Gianyar Police and received medical treatment at Sanjiwani Regional Hospital.
Authorities seized evidence including the suspect’s passport, a red Honda CBR motorcycle, and a red-black full-face helmet.
Witnesses described Orme as having an athletic build and a fierce gaze, adding to the intimidation he projected during the assault. Police later confirmed that the suspect is a professional boxer in his home country and is currently in Bali as a tourist.
“He is a boxer in the UK and a tourist in Bali. We will not proceed with deportation but will follow legal procedures according to the direction of the Bali Police Chief,” said AKBP Umar.
“Anyone who commits an act of violence will be processed according to applicable laws,” he added.
The suspect is being charged under Article 351 Paragraph (2) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning assault, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
