Denpasar – The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has uncovered a drug laboratory in Gianyar, Bali. According to officials, the lab was operated by foreign nationals.
Brigadier General Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono, Head of Public Relations and Protocol for BNN, stated that the clandestine laboratory was managed by both foreign nationals and Indonesian operators.
“The clandestine laboratory contained various Category 1 narcotics, including dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and fentanyl,” Brigadier General Pudjo said in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday, July 22nd.
During the recent operation, BNN arrested a Filipino national identified as DAS, while a Jordanian national, AMI, remains at large.
The laboratory, located in a villa on Jalan Keliki, Payangan, Gianyar, housed various types of drugs. However, Brigadier General Pudjo did not specify the exact types and quantities of the narcotics found.
In addition to the drugs found in the lab, other narcotics were discovered at different locations.
BNN Chief Marthinus Hukom will provide detailed information during a press conference at the crime scene on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
First Discovery in Indonesia
Brigadier General Pudjo highlighted that this was the first discovery of a DMT production site in Indonesia.
DMT is a substituted tryptamine compound found in various plants and animals, including humans. It is a structural analog of tryptamine, used recreationally as a psychedelic drug and ritually as an entheogen by several cultures. The substance induces intense hallucinations.
The discovery of this foreign-operated drug lab resulted from BNN’s cyber patrols.
“We received information from the internet, which led us to the source in Bali,” Brigadier General Pudjo explained.
The drugs were distributed online.
