Australian Man Faces Up to Five Years in Jail After Violent Bali Beach Club Brawl

A 27-year-old Australian man has been arrested and charged with assault in Indonesia after allegedly being involved in a violent brawl at one of Bali’s most exclusive beach clubs.

Mohamed Rifai was paraded for the media in an orange prison outfit on Thursday alongside eight security staff who were involved in the incident at the popular Finns Beach Club last week.

Police claim a fight involving Mr Rifai and his Australian friends with a Singaporean man escalated into an all-in brawl in the car park with security staff.

Mr Rifai is accused of assaulting one of those bouncers and causing serious injury.

Police allege he knocked the man unconscious, knocked a couple of teeth out, and that a bouncer had to then be taken to hospital to get stitches for a serious facial laceration.

If prosecuted and convicted, Mr Rifai could face up to five years in jail.

Police have two separate investigations running after they also charged the eight security guards with “group assault” as a result of the fight.

Daniel Adityajaya from Bali police told reporters the security guards had jointly beaten and assaulted two Australian citizens.

The charge carries a maximum of six-and-a-half years in jail.

All of the men will wait in prison while the investigation continues.

Police say they are continuing to gather evidence.
